Yusso: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Thug, Innovator, The Weirdo!

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I’d say I’m a creator… I create not to perfect but to project my ideas and thoughts. I’m a soul thats here to show people that we’re alike in a lot of ways but it’s our differences that make the stories that impacts lives and push people to be themselves.

Why do you do what you do?

I find it’s the best way possible for me to express myself. I find it hard doing so anyway else but with music and writing although I’m limited to how many words I can fit in a bar or verse I’m still able to express myself more thuroughly than through other outlets of expression. Beyond that It’s as simple as…it makes me happy. I feel like true happiness is really hard to come by these days and I’ve found mine in music and sound.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I realized I really wanted to do this for the rest of my life around late 2013/early 2014. With everything I had gone through 2 years prior to releasing “Sandbox Pride” it really showed me that if I wanted to stand any chance of being happy it would have to be through music. I’d also say another thing that made me realize this is what I wanted to do is looking at some of my family members and wondering how happy they are day in and day out doing what they do and questioning if I wanted to end up like so…and I couldn’t so I made the change and took my happiness more serously than anything.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

I’ve had to overcome a lot of people and their negativity, a few homies here and there that either turned their backs on me, fvked me over like crazy, or just didn’t see the same goals as I did, family feuds that are still unresolved and don’t know if they ever will be, and most of all I had to overcome getting used to doing a lot of what I do alone because a lot people claim to wannna rock with you but end up either trying to change your sound or ideas or just don’t really rock with what you do until other people do.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

Yes, 2pac once said “A lot of people - black, white, Mexican, young or old, fat or skinny have a problem being true to they self they have a problem looking into the mirror and looking directly into their own soul. That's the reason I am who I am today cause I can look directly in my face and find my soul.” Those words to this day are what Inspire me to to become who I am and continue to be who i am to the fullest.

I actually don’t know if i’ve ever inspired anyone directly. I hope I have haha…I mean when I first started recording I had a friend I recorded with and at first all he wanted to do was just feature on the songs I had. Eventually I showed him more of the technical side of what I do and encouraged him to branch out more on himself instead of kind of staying under my wing I guess you could say. In the end it worked and I was and am still to this day super proud of his independence not only as a musician but as a person.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

I made the mistake in trusting a lot of people that I definitely shouldn’t have, but I learned from it like every other mistake I ever made. I find thats how i’ve learned mostly throughout my 22 years of living is from my mistakes.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

As of right now I have a show at Babylon June 5th thats organized by Rock Steady Bookings. Im gonna preforming with Eddie Quotez, Aron The Alien, Jesse Dangerously, ANTIKS, and I’m pretty sure its hosted by Sully, and August 12th also at babylon but it’s more of a competitive show with a prize or something in the end. Im also working on a collaborative EP with another local artist along with working on my next project which will be either an Ep or a full length album depending on these recording sessions go. I also should have a few more visuals dropping in the next few months to come

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Always strive to get to that point where your able to be yourself no matter what the situation calls for. Thats when you know at the end of the day you won…no matter what you win because you’ve still got yourself to hold on to and thats the best prize anyone could get out of life.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

hmmm… make sure to watch what ever moves, and sub-watch what doesn’t move and learn from these things…Yusso signing off. If anyone needs me i’ll be layin low-key in Yodenheim ;)
