Wanzama: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Honestly, whenever I feel inspired to make something new I always try and get my ideas out right away, I go through periods of times where I don’t want to even hear music mostly due to other things going on at the time or just life in general, but when I do feel inspired you’ll catch me humming melodies and breaking out my piano for hours!

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

Ahah well I guess im a dude who’s really crazy for music, I’ve sacrificed a lot, never let anyone hold me back or discourage me, left girlfriends, jobs, and everything that most people wouldn’t for music.

Why do you do what you do?

I do what I do because I love it, and I figure the best career is one that you love!

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I realized that producing and DJ’ing is what I wanted to do from a young age, honestly it wasn’t really one event that had guided me to doing this, I’ve always been the DJ out of all my friends.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

Toughest thing I had to overcome was learning how to adapt to playing for large groups of people, the only thing that helped me was playing more and understanding how to keep the energy going and how to identify body language, also I learned a lot from promoters who were helping me get the shows I’ve played and learned how to prepare myself for certain venues! Also mixing harmonically makes a huge difference I recommend every DJ to do this.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

I find inspiration in many different ways, but mostly I find inspiration from seeing producers that I used to listen to years ago, that were very unknown and are now touring all over the world. Some examples (Paris Blohm , Paris&Simo, Dzeko & Torres).

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Worst mistake I ever made, is to take the opportunities you get for granted, if you want respect in the music industry, be humble, work hard and let your “Art” speak for itself, no one likes someone who “knows how good they are”. OH, OH and as an opening DJ do not play the headliners style of music, or drop “bangers” from the start…. If you didn’t know! Overall I’ve learned that its more important to keep the event flowing smooth rather then you trying to get all the shine and this is crucial, a lot of people will respect you for understanding this!

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

Lots of new music on the way, I’m releasing a new Progressive House track, Friday June 27th on my sound cloud for a free download!  I’m also playing my first festival this year on August 16th at The Beach Club Festival in Brampton, at the Wild Water Kingdom.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

My one piece of advice to everyone, is to do what makes you happy, if you’re an artist make what you like, what you love, put your heart into what you do, it’ll make you a happier person, don’t let people get you down, not everyone is talented and understands what its like to be passionate, it takes more of a character to fight for what you love and be the person you’ve dreamed to be! There will always be bumps in the road and detours, you just always have to keep your head up and keep working hard!

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

I just wanted to give a huge thanks to Babes & Gents for the feature, it was really cool of you guys to reach out to me for this and definitely motivates me to keep working hard! Love you guys!
