Vanessa Giorgio: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Experiences, Create, Love

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

A soul constantly craving to create and discover new things. I have a thirst for knowledge and to connect with my surroundings.

Why do you do what you do?

I don’t think I could do anything else. It brings me peace to transform my imagination into something tangible, whatever the medium.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I think on some level I’ve always known I would do something with my creativity. School always pushed me to maintain my art work and later events allowed me to expose my work to the public. Then I was hooked on connecting with others through my work.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

Probably the stigma associated with a career in the arts. The concept of a “starving artist”… unable to find work. The endless support from my family and friends definitely encouraged me as well as the numerous mentors I have been privileged enough to learn from.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My parents are a prime example of being able to better yourself and your life with hard work and determination, I wouldn’t be who I am today without them. Being a part of BOSS Dance Company and working alongside Leah Totten definitely changed the course of my creative life and every other creative individual that I’ve encountered has inspired me to no end. I don’t know that I’ve ever inspired someone directly but I’d feel very honored if I did!

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Trusting that everyone has my best interest at heart. Not everyone is looking out for you, or has the best intentions. Every bump in the road is a learning experience and I’ve developed a thicker skin because of it.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

I have a few collaborative projects coming up and some live painting events and showcases. I’m hoping to expand outside of Toronto and travel with my work. Overall, I just want to continue to improve as an artist and connect with other people through our mutual creativity.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Go with your gut and never give up. Your intuition will never steer you wrong, and no matter how hard life gets there is always a glimmer of hope. Hold onto it and push through, life is truly a gift.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

Thank you so much for this opportunity! Never stop creating!
