Taylor Murdoch: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Inspiration – all around me

Passion - dance

Strength - family

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I am Taylor Murdoch.

Why do you do what you do?

I like to wake up everyday knowing I’m doing something I’m passionate about.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

In High school when everyone was deciding what universities they wanted to go to, I knew I only wanted to pursue a dance career. Very thankful to have supportive parents that have always let me do what I’m passionate about.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

Overcoming my shyness has been hard for me. I used to feel socially awkward all the time (especially in group settings when I didn’t know many people). When I moved to Toronto only knowing no one, it forced me to become comfortable in those situations and I learned how to introduce myself to anyone/everyone.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My parents have definitely raised me to fully be myself because of their constant support. Some of my other mentors are Meisha Lee and Kelly Konno. They were the ones that showed me it is possible to have a career in dance. I’ve had some of my students tell me how I’ve inspired them, and knowing that I’ve helped them in some way will always be one of the best feelings.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

I think my biggest mistake has been letting self-doubt get to me. It’s so easy to constantly tell yourself you are not good enough. Recently I’ve started to let go of that and appreciate myself for who I am.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

One of my goals this year is to push myself to get my choreography out. I have a few things coming up this summer, but nothing set in stone yet. Check out my social media accounts to stay updated on what I’m working on.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

You only have one life so don’t be afraid to chase after your dreams (as cheezy as that sounds)

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

Thanks for the interview!
