Tanz Jeyacheya: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

When I think of those words I just imagine traveling and having a lifestyle which allows me to see things whilst doing what I’m most passionate about

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I am TJ

Why do you do what you do?

I do creative things because it’s the only way I know how to express myself, if it be through art, photography, music, fashion or writing. I do all these things just because it’s what I love to do.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I guess It all started when I used to watch my dad draw, then I just copied him. From the age of 6 I was entering art competitions and winning I didn’t think much of it then but as I’ve grown up I’ve just developed my skills in each area of art and photography and managed to adapt them to fashion and music! I think the main event that led me to pursure a creative lifestyle is when I was 15 and got an internship at The MKI Miyuki-Zoku Store. From then I was just so focused with making a living out of things that I created.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

The toughest thing I’ve had to overcome is probably getting myself to focus, I used to find it very easy to just procrastinate for months on end before finishing anything I started, I guess I can thank everyone who’s mentored me in the past year or 2 on getting a better work ethic.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

I’ve only just noticed now but everything I’ve seen in my life has inspired me in a way, from watching films, music videos anything and even just looking at other artists work. Yeah I defiantly have, I  stay in touch with a lot of people around the world who are all in the different creative fields and I always try my hardest to just help who ever I can if they need it.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

I feel like my journey is just starting properly now! I was never really on job with anything, I’d post here and there and book in a the odd shoot every month but now I’ve learnt consistency is key! The only other thing I could say is working with a group of people is better than on your own, especially if you have a similar vision, this makes creating things a lot more fun and the outcome 100 times better!

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

I have my Nike Airmax Artwork collection coming out online & in a few shops in the UK this month. I am planning on working with a few other artists on some collaboration work which is looking to be great. Then a few other things but they’re staying a secret for now..

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

From thing’s I’ve gone through in my life and my journey as a creative person I’d would just say do what makes you happy ?

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)
