Sir Real: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

What I use to fuel my music.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I am just a person who happens to have survived a lot of shit. I now use that experience to try and affect positive change in others. I am also a father, husband and writer that lives every day to the fullest because you never know when you will run out of days.

Why do you do what you do?

For the fans, for the love of music and for my brother Nick, R.I.P

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

Well I started out doing it as therapy. I come from a very poor family so when my brother died by suicide, we put on 3 back to back hiphop shows in my city and raised all of the money for his funeral. He was my biggest fan and was always at the shows. I knew that I needed to keep going and also wanted to eventually give back to the community that had given me so much during that terrible time.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

I’ve struggled with addiction since I was 11 years old. I have now been clean for 7 years. Also losing my brother almost ended it for me, I was in a very dark place at that time and almost hung the mic up.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My brother has inspired every step of my career as he was the most kind and compassionate person I have ever met. My son Benjamin aka Lower case g inspires me daily. Eminem was obviously a great influence on me as well. I have since heard a young man say that my music saved his life when he was in a place of suicidal ideation and he gave me a hug and cried. That was probably the best moment of my career.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

I made the mistake of taking people for granted. Choosing money over friendship and hip hop over relationships. I have since learned this and changed my ways to better keep those relationships.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

I have 2 cd’s coming out in the next 6 months, 1 mixtape available for free called Billy Bacon Pockets and my sophomore solo album titled Wear It Well as well.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Stay true to yourself, don’t be a follower it’s a harder road to success, but in the end you know that it’s you that got you there and not just the fad you became a part of.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

You don’t have to let your past dictate your future. Even though we only live but once physically, we live in hearts and minds eternally.
