Sean Choe: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Love, family and nature.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

A collection of carbon based particles that's been blessed by the mechanics of random calculations in the dimensions of universal space, my purpose in this life is to create and explore the limits of visual imagery for the future and past denizens of planet earth.

Why do you do what you do?

Capturing the visual poetry of mother nature for the enlightenment of mankind and therein elevate the mysteries of creation.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

When I was about 7 or 8 I had a strong urge to draw things and to be very good at it. The interest persisted throughout my teen years and along with my interest in computers, reading books, visual art and collecting comic books/graphic novels, it led me to learning how to create digital art in it's most rudimentary form of ANSi art. As technology progressed, I found further love in discovering 3D art, digital painting, 3D animation, filmmaking and photography. Learning one helps another skillset and I enjoy the synergy between the creative disciplines and all that other knowledge helped me to improve my photography and apply more complex techniques.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

The lack of information and the relative small size of the creative industry means that opportunities are not abundant. A lot of self-study was a necessity and persistence the only way to keep pursuing the passion. One of the great things about this job is you get to meet lots of inspirational and talented people who each help you in one way or another. I believe when creating something worthwhile it tends to get tougher than easier to outdo yourself so one needs to be ready to be constantly challenged and stay balanced.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My parents have always urged my to follow my passions so I gained my courage from them. There are a lot of artists I admire and gain inspiration from but the people who truly inspire me are those that have integrity and compassion. I have met and made friends with fellow photographers online and I believe through our work we are able to inspire each other.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Pursuing a degree in Psychology was for me a mistake but a necessary one. I believe all mistakes are necessary to set you on whatever path is meant for you. I've learned since then to think carefully about what's truly important in life and not live aimlessly.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

I plan to create a short animated film as a long term goal, in the meantime music videos, 3D art, digital paintings, conceptual photoshoots , sharing my processes and techniques through my Patreon account which I've just started to share my creativity and knowledge.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Don't forget to smell the roses on your journey, life needs to enjoyed. Courage to pursue your passion and to live the life you want for yourself within your means and not be consumed by greed. Never have any regrets about anything and especially about not starting something sooner, just start now. Physical and mental health is key to creativity so that should be pursued with the same vigor.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

Thanks for the opportunity to connect and share my thoughts. I look forward to gaining a lot of inspiration from all the creatives here :)
