Sammy Rawal: Interview

\\

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Things you need or ur fucked

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

Old soul trapped in a human body

Why do you do what you do?

because it makes me really happy and i love it

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

i used to make video mix tapes on a vcr as a kid. i’d watch much

music and mtv and record all my favourite videos on compilation

tapes based on themes/genres n shit. and then i remember seeing an

interview with floria sigismondi on the new music or the wedge on

much music and she had just finished directing marilyn manson’s

beautiful people video. i knew at that moment i was gonna

somehow find a way to become a director

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

i feel like i’m still overcoming stuff to be honest. it’s a really tough

n competitive industry. thankfully ive had a lot of help along the

way from people like jannie mcinnes who’s really become a mentor

to me

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

my parents have always encouraged me to be creative…my

imagination and weirdness kind of manifested in really destructive

behaviour as a kid so i think they’re just really happy i’m using all

that energy for the good now. and my high school art / photography

teachers were pretty important to me; they opened up my eyes to

what i could do with art and imagery.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

not fighting back on creative decisions made by record labels and

trying to be a nice guy. i’ve learned how important it is to be heard

and to have conviction behind my ideas.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

wrapping up a music video for progress (canadian rapper) and

starting to create a series of looped gifs for casey mecija's (from

ohbijou) new solo project. i wanna make a short dance film this

winter…

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

“find what you love and let it kill you” - charles bukowski

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

See ya
