Penni Layne: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

My Mum, she’s just amazing in so many ways.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

A strong force of positive energy

Why do you do what you do?

because if you never try, you’ll never know

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I have been in choirs and sang competitively so when I was really young I always knew I loved singing and seeing peoples reaction when I really let myself get lost in a song is the most rewarding feeling ever….such a rush

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

My anxiety, so many people deal with this daily…and it truly is a big challenge. I have had to get past it every time I’m in front of a camera, in the booth singing or even something like this interview..

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My parents and siblings have always known my potential, even when I didn’t believe in myself or think I was good enough. They were always the ones to help me see that if I put my mind and heart into anything it’ll be great!

I think maybe I have.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

I stopped singing for a few years because I felt as though I had failed. I tried out for Canadian idol one year and I’ll never forget, they chose a boy who couldn’t remember the words to O’Canada over me, because I looked too young….it broke my heart.

Now, I realize that it is all just gimmicks and for the camera, I would much rather be myself than a product.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

My ‘Black Widow’ EP will be released this summer, and my first music videos will be dropping this month! So excited, I can’t wait to share this with everyone!

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

“Never give up on the things that make you smile.”

That’s my favorite quote and something that has gotten me past the worst times.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

You can be whoever you want to be. You can do whatever you want to do. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
