OSIYM: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Inspiration – Life

Passion – Music

Strength – Family

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I’m Nova. A rapper, but I’m a man first. A proud father. A damn hard worker. A pimp in my own mind.

I’m Charlie Black. I’m a reckless person with perfect hindsight. Ultimately, a work in progress.

Why do you do what you do?

More than anything we do it for the love. There is nothing more powerful that standing on a stage and rocking a crowd. We do it for our family and for conquest.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

Nova: I’ve always had a way with words and loved being able to impact or influence people with my thoughts and ideas. In high school I did a few performances and that’s when I fell in love with that feeling. I stepped away a few times to take care of life, but somehow always ended up around people or situations that drew my back to music.

Charlie Black: I found my brother’s poetry book which led me to start writing poetry. Then he started rapping, so I started rapping. RIP Nate Black.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

CB: Believing that all the effort and time grinding will eventually pay off. And also finding money to pay for beats and record without selling drugs. It helped by linking up with Nova and our manager, Bootsy, to pool our resources together and to help lay out the vision.

Nova: The toughest thing for me was just the balancing act. As an independent artist there is always the challenge of being able to pay the bills and fund your passion. And managing time as a family man and a musician. Having a strong support system from family and friends, and also the love from the fans is what helped keep me pushing.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

CB: Nate Black. The Legend. RIP. My big bro was my biggest inspiration to attack this music game.

Nova: My 2 sons are my main inspiration for following my dreams now. They see my growth and I refuse to let them see what quitting looks like. I’ve also had a couple mentors along the way who helped inspire me, whether they know it or not.

The success we’ve seen since joining forces and creating OSIYM has directly influenced a lot of people within our circle. Big or small, whatever we have accomplished so far has shown them that results are actually possible.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Nova: My mistake was not taking enough risks. By trying new things, I learned more about what I’m actually capable of. It also gave me confidence to trust my gut instincts because more often than not they would not fail me.

CB: Earlier in my career I wasn’t a good listener as far as criticism goes. I’ve learned to better my sound and writing styles by understanding that I am making music for the people. I started to value the opinions and input from other while remaining true to myself.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

We have recently released an EP online called SPIRITS, available on iTunes, Google Play and Soundcloud. At this time, we’re working on a ton of new music and just striving towards greatness and being recognized as the best duo in the game.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

CB: As long as you’re not hurting anybody, do what makes you happy. Life’s too short, bruh.

Nova: Put quality of life over money. Because in the end it’s about what you did, not what you spent. Experiences over expenditures.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)
