What do you do? (Profession/Occupation)

I am a wardrobe stylist for fashion and film, I design and make dance costumes and I model and act on the side.

How long have you been doing it?

A couple years now but more recently I have been focusing more on working in wardrobe the past couple months. I used to work a couple jobs and would try to squeeze all of the creative stuff in at the same time but it was too much. I was constantly asking friends to cover shifts so I could do the creative stuff which isn't fair on them. For anyone in this situation you will fully understand the struggle between making money and doing what you love. I took the big jump and made all of my jobs a reality. Its definitely scary at first not having the security of a regular job but it is so worth it when you are doing what you love full time. You have to take that jump to see if you have what it takes. You can always find a job or little jobs to make money but if you never try you'll never know. If you want it enough you will make it work. This is the time to go for it.

Fav Song

Thats a really tricky question because I love so many  genres of music. My favourite song changes so often so for now my favourite song for right now would have to be Magic Man by Heart. Its a classic.

Fav Musician/Vocal artist/Rapper/Singer

Again, Super hard to pick just one artist my favourite genre would be good old classic rock though.

Fav Movie

Anything by Wes Anderson

Fav Actor/Actress

Angelina Jolie 100 % I wish I was her 24/7

Fav Clothing brand

I love love love Hayley Elsaesser. I love her message, her designs and just everything about her. If you haven’t checked out her stuff you seriously need to go look up her stuff right now!

Fav Artist (in any art form)

Petra Collins. She is fabulous and I love how she incorporates multiple medias in what she does. She’s a film maker, photographer, visual artist and positive role model for young women.

Fav Sport to watch

Dance - Yes it is a sport because you put your body through so much over the years and you have to make it look easy while doing it all.

Fav Sport to play

Dance - I was a dancer and danced since I was 6 to the age of 19. I still bust a move here and there.

Murphy Macdonald-Rea : Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

I don’t really think of any words that come to mind. I think of all of the strong people in my life that show these traits all the time and push me to keep going no matter what. (You know who you are I love you!)

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I am a cat alien from another planet who came to earth because she saw how humans had the potential to create such beautiful things through their own creativity. Plus the clothes on Earth were way cooler than the ugly alien uniforms they had on her planet. But seriously I am just a girl who loves what she does and is constantly changing and growing in a creative way.

Why do you do what you do?

I had always known I wanted to be in the industry in some sort of way. I do it because once I started working more in the industry on little to no sleep and loving every single moment I knew that this was my passion. I also love the fact that as a viewer watching a film or looking at a picture and can tell instantly something from a character/fashion story just based on the way they dress and see them for who they are without really putting too much thought into it you know thats who that character is and what they would wear. No questions asked. That is when the costume designer or wardrobe stylist has done a good job because it just makes sense.. and thats why I do it.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I originally went to university for dance. It was when I was leaving that program I really realized that I could make a career out of being obsessed with film, costumes and fashion. I also had the help from a loved one who told me I could do anything.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

I think Ive been pretty lucky with amazing opportunities that have helped me grow as a person and as a wardrobe stylist/costume designer.. As for modelling the toughest thing Ive had to over come is not caring what people think. Which can be hard when you are on set and a photographer flat out is insulting you. It makes it uncomfortable for me because I don't get sad about it I just get angry then I look like an evil villain. Constantly I am told that I could lose some weight and to be perfectly honest I am happy with how I look and could care less if someone thinks that. I do modelling for fun and to work with designers on a whole other level. I love to learn where they get their inspiration, why they do what they do and how. I’m not just a mannequin for some pictures with a blank expression on my face. Unless the shoot is some creepy doll situation. I would like to think that I have a cool look and can adapt and transform for different shoots. That is why recently I have been more interested in continuing to work on my acting. Not only is it more fun for me personally but there are no restrictions to my weight or what my face looks like. My friends, family and boyfriend really keep me sane during crazy times. I also believe that it is a great time for different models now with more people speaking out and using more of a variety.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My boyfriend always inspires me to become a better person and to always follow my dreams. Whatever Im doing at that moment he is always supporting me. I would love to say that I have inspired people around me but Im not sure I have? It would be awesome if I did and that would mean a lot to me.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Everyone makes mistakes. I always am learning from each project what I can make better the next time but I don't think that I have made any mistakes. I don't think that taking time off from fashion school is a mistake, I don't think going to school for dance when I was 18 was a mistake I think everything happens for a reason in life.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

Im working on a short film that my boyfriend wrote and will be directing at the end of the month. I have a few modelling gigs this month and just planning other styling gigs for the rest of the month. I would really love to start up a youtube channel at some point and just have lip-synching battles with local Toronto artists. Its mostly because I just really want to battle Jimmy Fallon one day.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Learn from colleagues around you. Dont compete with them. You can always learn something from someone. There will always be someone better than you and there will always be someone worse than you. Dont forget where you came from. Stay Humble. Dont care too much about what people think and again, stay humble.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

Thanks for thinking I’m interesting and asking me all these questions! Later days!
