MANNY: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Honesty and trueness. It might sounds weird, but let me explain. To me, everything starts with yourself. Your surroundings are the reflect of your inside. And those energies that flow in you and which you use when you do something with your live (for example, when you decide to create) should always come from a place of truth. Strength, passion or inspiration are stronger when they are real. Plus, in life, you reap what you sow. Stay yourself and life will give it back to you.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

Your regular white guy. A bit more headstrong than the average. That helps me to stay focus on my things and to reach my goal. For the rest. I’m like you… Really. I have flaws, strengths, doubts and moments of glory.

Why do you do what you do?

It’s my way of being part of the world, to be alive, simply to exist. Also, I like to help people and with photography, I’ve find a way to do it by building beautiful projects.

And honestly, I don’t like routine. I couldn’t work 40 hours per week, from 9 to 5 everyday, while enduring traffic every mornings and afternoons. I would slowly die inside if I had to.By the way, no matter what people will tell you, this is not what life is all about.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

During my second year of university, I still didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do for a career, but also what to do with my whole life. I was taught to think in a certain way, how things were supposed to be and it wasn’t working for me. And so, I had this photography class (which was optional) in my communications studies. I loved it so much, and hated the rest so much that one day, I decided to quit everything expect that class. Plus, I wanted to travel. So I started working full time to get money, and 6 months later, my brother and I bought a one-way ticket to Paris. As long as we had money, we would kept on traveling, and so we did 8 countries in 2 months. This was the greatest gift I could give to myself, because I gave myself a chance to think with new perspectives and to learn from other people’s experiences.

From that moment, I told myself to never live my life the way I did before, or think the way I was thinking before. So when I came back in Canada, I just decided to do what I loved and it was photography.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

For me, it was to face what people I loved (like my father and even some best friends) thought of me. To face the plans they had in mind for my life or where they were seeing me in the future, while I was trying to change the course of my life.

You know how people around us tends to act like they know us better than ourself. (Which is wrong by the way.) It’s hard to accept your choices in those situations. And the hardest part was to let go of the people that didn't influence my life in a good way even if I had great relations with them in the past. When you try to create something and/or to be yourself, you need support from the right persons. And I had to say goodbye to many people for my own good. It’s part of life. And I accept it how it is.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My mom. She’s the best. She just told me since I was young; be who you want to be and do what you want do. But you know, she taught me the right way and made me take my responsibilities as well.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Can’t think of one. But sure thing, I’m never making the same mistake twice.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

Constancy is my word for the next months. I want to create weekly projects like my new « All-Access Album » project so people can grow an interest in visiting MANNY Facebook page every week at the same day. But I have a lot of touring projets coming up with many djs around North America and maybe even Australia, so constancy will be hard to get ;)

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Be the change you want to see in the world. Otherwise, how can you expect the rest of the world to do that change?

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

Thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts like that. It’s nice of you. <3
