Maggie: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Inspiration: Change

Passion: Fire

Strength: Help

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I am a creator and a helper. I can't stop with the ideas.

Why do you do what you do?

I want to learn and teach. I really want to seek and find and share the beauty of the world.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

It's more of a realization that this is what I'm meant to do. As a kid I had a couple pretend bands and wrote with friends in high school. After starting the band MaryMac, I was lucky to be able to play live at least once a week for a year straight in NYC. That music led me to collaborate with Black Coast, which has really opened me up to a lot of projects with various producers around the world. The EP I'm currently wrapping is a taste of all of the work in between and some of the talented producers that have been a part of that journey.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

I think just growing up and really finding myself as an artist. I skipped around a lot of mediums and always had a desire to express my thoughts and feelings. It's a beautiful thing, realizing your purpose. I hope to share more ideas and inspire more thought.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

I'm inspired by a lot of entertainers and artists. They work so hard and can have a huge hand in making change.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Oh beautiful mistakes, keep moving!

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

I’m really excited to be finishing up my first EP! The sounds come from rising producers out of Los Angeles, Chicago and New York; with a little bit of Houston swag sprinkled on top.

Look out for a new single to be released 7•07•15

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

“Listen like a f*cking animal in the forest” This little piece was said to me in Acting school and I think it greatly applies to getting out in the world and making it happen. There is so much going on around us that we really have to focus to respond efficiently. Be prepared to work hard, it's satisfying!

First Language?

What do you do? (Profession/Occupation)

I am a writer. I write songs and poetry and hopefully much more than that in the future. I am also working as an assistant at Mercy Sound Recording Studios, which continues to teach me an incredible amount about music, daily

How long have you been doing it?

The last three months I have been transitioning into writing full time. It's been a blessing seeing projects come to fruition; Especially since each step, I feel, has prepared me for the next. As far as writing, I've always been really drawn to language; how we translate, speak, draw pictures with sound. I think that's why Ilike the voice. It's everyone's natural instrument and it has power.

Fav Song

Three Little Birds- Bob Marley

"Singing sweet songs of melodies pure and true.."

Fav Musician/Vocal artist/Rapper/Singer

I grew up seeing John Mayer at many Jazz Festivals in NoLA, so he has definitely been a big piece of inspiration for me. Also, in highschool, Kanye’s The College Dropout, Katy Perry’s One of the Boys and even Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III really made me want to make an album. Right now, I'm really inspired by the work of Sia and Kendrick. They are saying something and are brave enough to

cut deep.

Fav Movie

My favorite movie growing up was Matilda. She had a strong, fearless desire to make things right. Also, Kill Bill II for that same reason.

Fav Actor/Actress

Diane Keaton and Amy Poehler are some of my favs. They have perfect comedic timing and are not afraid to take risks. I'm a big fan of physical comedy.

Fav Clothing brand

I really like shoes, Dr. Martens and Nike Blazers. I like to crop fun shirts I find on Etsy or shop surf brands like Volcom or Billabong.

Fav Artist (in any art form)

I love the work of Michael Donovan. When I started writing in NYC, I was searching for visuals to accurately portray the emotion and

depth in my words. When I came across his honest and raw vision, I felt something.

Fav Sport to watch

I really love to watch NBA, though I'm a Knicks fan so I'm always looking to the next season.

Fav Sport to play

I love playing basketball and if there is water around, wakeboarding.
