Lindsay Living: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

2013 was a tough year for me, but a challenging and great one, too. When I think of opening myself up entirely to inspiration and passion, I think of 2013 and the strength it took to get through that year and the lovely things that have come into my life as a result of walking the hard road to a better life.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I’m a teacher, a blogger, a daughter, a friend, a girlfriend, a creative spirit. But most of all I’m me and I try to be myself in everything I do.

Why do you do what you do?

I’ve always had a passion for personal style. Not fashion per se, but the endless possibilities in creating and expressing yourself through your style. I’m a big believer in “look good, feel good”. I’m less stressed when I feel great, and working on my style helps me do that everyday.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

It took me a long time to get there. I was a painting major in college, worked in the retail merchandising field for many years before going back to school to get my masters and become a teacher. I always say getting my masters changed my life. It gave me more than a job, but a career that fulfills me.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

I’ve had my fair share of difficulties in life, mostly in personal relationships. My relationship with my father was one, and going through a difficult marriage and divorce was another. My divorce was some of the deepest pain I’ve ever experienced, and I wouldn’t wish that turmoil on my worst enemy. I owe my survival to my amazingly supportive mother and stepfather, and my closest friends. Having my career was another thing that kept me centered and focused on the wonderful things in life. When everything was changing around me, and a lot of my future was a question mark, it was comforting to know that one area of my life that was a constant.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My mama inspires me everyday. She believes in me like no one else, and always encourages me to think big and go for it. She’s the one who supported me in pursuing anything I wanted in college, and was incredibly proud of her daughter the painting major. She’s the one who reads my blog everyday without fail and encourages me to keep going, even when life gets busy and hectic. My mother is strong in her own life and a great example of the kind of woman I’d like to be. I’m lucky to have her in my life.

In my teaching career I strive to inspire fellow teachers to try new things in their classrooms and through leading book studies, trainings, and workshops I’ve had an opportunity to do that.

In my blogging life, I’ve created the Seattle Style Bloggers group and have connected with a ton of Seattle area style bloggers, many of whom have told me that my blog has inspired them, which is the highest form of praise.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

I could tell you about big life mistakes, but really I try to live without regret and I know that everything that I’ve done has contributed to who I am and I would never take any of that back.

I could tell you about silly little mistakes in blogging, but really, the nature of blogging is that it’s always moving and changing and you’re only as good as your last post.

Overall I try not to dwell on mistakes and keep myself looking forward to the next great adventure.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

I took a little blog break earlier in the year and have loved getting back to blogging everyday and refining the purpose and intention of my blog. I’ve got some great collaborations in the works with small and big companies, have loved sharing more sides of my life like decorating my apartment, music, and life lessons, and I’m looking forward to more exciting opportunities with my site.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Pursue what makes you happy. That’s it. It’s simple and incredibly difficult at the same time, but if you view all of your endeavors through this lens it will always lead you to the best of what life has to offer.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

Take some time today and everyday to bring joy to someone else. It will come back to you in unexpected ways.
