Liam Lloyd: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Love, Desire, Agony, Friends, Family, Nature, Music, Health

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I am me. A representation of all the biological and external factors that have shaped me throughout my journey.

Why do you do what you do?

Because I love it. If I didn't love it, Id do something else.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I have, since age 6, always played music in some capacity. A few years into my degree at Ottawa U I developed a greater

passion for playing music… Before I knew it, I had hooked up with a lifelong friend and was playing five nights a week

in and around the nation's capital. I began writing songs here and there…  The rest is, as they say, bygone times.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

There are always ups and downs, no matter what you do. Elevator operator, pilot, high-rise window cleaner…

But seriously, it is important to have a supportive family and great friends to help you along…  Im lucky in that respect.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My father was, and remains to be, an incredible singer/musician. He has always been a big influence.

Ill never forget the first CD I ever bought, Jimi's The Ultimate Experience. That was a game changer fer sure.

RATM's first record really grabbed my by the nuts. And Ill never forget the first time I heard Grand Funk's tune

Inside Lookin' Out while driving down main street in Pembroke, ON, skipping music class to go drink coffee and smoke cigarettes

at William's Diner.

People often will come up to me at shows and comment on my guitar playing…  I usually just tell them

"if you hate it so much, friggin go somewhere else." For real though, it's always a great feeling when someone approaches you and is genuinely inspired by something you've done…  unless they have bad breath, then it's ruined.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Im not gonna lie, Im pretty good at mistakes. One may be led to believe that from all the missteps throughout my journey, Id be quite wise… sensible… insightful…  perceptive. That person better watch their fat mouth.

I don't do regrets though, life's too short.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

Im currently finishing up a full length folk-rock album. It will be quite a departure from the eclectic

flavours of my first couple records. Much more organic. Basically all of the songs were penned in seclusion at a few different

cabins in Ontario and Quebec. Written while surrounded by water, mountains, fire, trees, moonlight, bastard mosquitos…  my dog, of course, by my side. I believe those circumstances really helped shape the tone of this record though. Im very excited about it :)

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Be yourself (unless you're a shitty person, then be someone better than you), do what you love, see the world, be kind to people,

smile lots, love firmly, stay active, adopt a pet…
