Léonie Gray: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Inspiration – Pain

Passion – way of living

Strenght – Positive energy from within

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I am a human being, not a human doing. I live through passion and discovery.

Why do you do what you do?

Because I guess I would die if I wasn’t doing it, or I would already be dead by now. Music is a therapy for me, it helps filter all the bad energy, like bad memories that you can put in a box and that you open from time to time to see how far you’ve come.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I don’t know. When I was just a baby, my parents saw this interest I had for music. I would just stick my head against a speaker and dance and try to sing (and that is when I was 1 year old) and grew up singing all the time. You know when you are a kid, and people ask you “what do you want to be when you grow up?” I always answered “a singer”. Even when I started high school in a prestigious private high school, where kids there usually become doctors or lawyers, even when my teachers would ask me this question, I’d always answer “a singer” and it never changed.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

People don’t get that I am not doing this for fame. I am doing this because I need to do it, and my main goal is to live from it. So many people told me what I should do, do that contest, sing this kind of song, dress like this, act like that. I am myself, and my songs reflect who I am, and I won’t change that. At first, as a kid who is constantly searching herself, it was really hard, because I had to define who I was even before knowing the answer.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My parents. They always gave me the choice to do what I wanted to do about my life. If I were happy, they would be too.  They always told me to follow my dreams. They thought me that you have to work hard for what you really want, because talent is not everything.

I don’t think I’ve inspired someone directly, or if I did, that person never told me.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Sad to say, but trusting people too much was my biggest mistake. Some people see the potential in you; some just see dollar signs. I learnt to be careful and aware in this industry.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

I am currently working on my first Ep that should be out in late 2014, early 2015, and going on a little tour in Canada and maybe Europe with the Musical.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

“There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative” – W.Clement Stone

No matter what happens in your life, stay positive. You are going to fail a million times, you will want to give up, but don’t, because learning from all those experiences are the best thing Life can give you.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

Music is the cure.
