Lauren McCormick: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

These are principles espoused by the Babes & Gents brand, but they also characterize any type of creative individual or artist. It is because of these words that many great collaborations have been formed (and the reason I am proud to work alongside Babes & Gents).

Why do you do what you do?

I take photos because my life is significantly better when I’m doing what I love to do.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

Getting into photography was not a conscious decision I made, it has gradually infiltrated my life and now it seems to take up most of my spare time. It has always been a passion. As a child, I was always taking pictures. My mother bought me my first camera when I was 12 years old, and I haven’t been able to stop ever since.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

There’s not really one major obstacle that I’ve had to overcome, but there have been many small hurdles along the way. I think that’s why I love photography so much though… it’s challenging in many ways and I’m constantly learning how to overcome barriers.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

A lot of things inspire me. People, places, experiences. I’d say most of my inspiration derives from my travels. I can only hope that some of the images I create inspire others.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

I’m human, I make mistakes all the time. To narrow the list down to only one would be impossible. The only way to grow and move forward is to recognize your mistakes and try to learn from them.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

So many upcoming projects! I’ve been doing more commercial stuff lately, but hoping to get back into some more creative personal projects this summer. I’m also getting more into the realm of wedding photography which is really exciting!

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

At the risk of sounding too cliche, I’ll keep it simple: if you want something, make it happen. Too many people get caught up doing things as a means to an end but never actually enjoy it. So find out what you love, and surround yourself with it.
