Justin Fox: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

I work because I love this shit.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I’m an obsessive compulsive creative. I am always crazy about something, and I’m always hungry to make more marks.

Why do you do what you do?

It makes me feel alive. Everything I do is challenging, and highly rewarding. I do a lot of work for the love and the feedback is gold.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I’ve always been documenting my life. I am somewhat of a prolific blogger and have been blogging before Blogger was even around. I’m happiest when I am getting into something new, and learning how to get good at it. I will forever be doing what I love to do (it’s what I’ve done for the past 20 years!).

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

My father passing away when I was 18. I gained a lot of strength from that event and with the help of time, it has truly shaped me into the man I am today.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

I was always taught about balance, but balance has never come easy for me. I live to inspire. I think it’s what I am here on this planet to do, and I’m quite happy with this thought.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

I’ve made a lot of mistakes, the main one is do not work with family or friends, or at least if you’re going to, be sure to have an exit strategy BEFORE going into business with them!

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

Zen Garage allows me to push and promote whatever it is that I am into at this very moment, thus letting me live in the moment. I can’t see that ever failing (as I am always into something new!), so I think Zen Garage will be the “umbrella” project for the rest of my working life.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

I think if more people took inspiration from themselves, their past, their history, and put that into their work, then there would be much more interesting work out there. IE: Stop copying someone else’s work, you’re the only you in this world, so if you do something true to yourself, your origins, then it will be original.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

Thanks for this opportunity!
