Julienne Styles: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Inspiration: Maya Angelou – my ultimate inspiration, a full package of talent.

Passion: Love – there is no passion without love.

Strength: Mom – the strongest person I know mentally and physically.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I am…me. Fierce, passionate, dedicated and ambitious. I am the person who can make you laugh yet listen to you when you need me the most. I am the yin yang of fashion. The bubbly monochromatic girl next door.

Why do you do what you do?

Clothes = self-expression. I love helping people and making them feel beautiful and look their best. There’s no better feeling than making someone feel confident and happy by looking and feeling good… by brightening their personality through fashion.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I knew I wanted to become a stylist/fashion event planner when I realized that I could make a career out of my passion. I always loved shopping, putting outfits together, helping friends getting ready for events, and I loved planning, coordinating and attending events. So I combined both passions and hobbies for the best of both worlds and it’s been going really well.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

The toughest thing I had to overcome was planning my first fashion event. It was so much work and it involved so much coordination, which I loved, but the hardest part was getting people together and making people want to attend my event. That’s when I realized how difficult it is to be in the event planning business, especially doing it alone. My close friends and family were such a big help and offered to assist me with the planning and that relieved so much pressure – I now know to ask for help and not try to do everything myself.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

When I first started exploring the idea of being a stylist, I got inspired by many girls who themselves were fashion bloggers and stylists. I saw how much work and effort they put in to get where they were, but they were having so much fun at the same time. Traveling, attending events, helping people. Some of these girls include: Sincerely Jules, Song of Style, The Blonde Salad, etc. I feel like I am the most inspiring when I talk to people who are also chasing their dreams. We can relate and understand each other, and for me that’s more inspiring than anything else.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

I always tried to mirror these popular fashion bloggers and stylists and wanted to be like them, but I started losing motivation and was getting discouraged because I wasn’t at their level, and I feel like I lost so much time doing that. When I look back, I wish that I would have concentrated more on myself and my goals, but I learned that popularity and getting a certain amount of followers and likes on Facebook and Instagram wasn’t going to shape my success. Live and learn.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

I’ve been working hard in different avenues, and getting my feet wet and exploring different opportunities. I’ve been traveling and meeting people, and I’ve discovered and worked on many of my talents. My next stop is LA… I’m working on exciting projects that I can’t wait to share with everyone. Stay tuned! My goal is to always be remembered as the monochrome-inspired, multi-talented, risk-taking fashionista. I want to leave my mark.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Stop wasting time and stop waiting for all of the stars to align. If you want something, don’t put it off until tomorrow. They key to success is getting started and never giving up.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

To everyone who believes in me and to my supporters, I am more than blessed and appreciative. To my old friends, new friends, business partners…. Thanks fam
