Jon Riera: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

I think about film making. It takes all of that to really create and complete a project, at least that's been my experience.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I heard this from a fellow film maker, and couldn't help but agree:

I'm just a lucky guy, who is really trying to do what I love and thanking my talented friends around me every day that we get to make it together.

Why do you do what you do?

Because its one of the things I'm most passionate about. Potentially the most. And I took the risk to follow my dreams, I'm gonna reap the rewards in that every chance I get.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I never did really, i still don't fully believe it. I'm waiting for the post apocalyptic moment to wake me up from this dream. Basically when film making becomes obsolete and I have/want to contribute to society in another way.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

Just to keep justifying to the powers that be (my parents) that this was the move, I put in a lot of volunteer hours, which i'm sure isn't done, and it was just how I justified the low times.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My grandma. And her siblings. I felt like they were real life super heroes. They just always believed in me unconditional, and had the craziest stories. I felt like when they told me things it was the first time i ever really listened.

I don't know.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Self Doubt. Everyone has it, but you should really go with your gut. Do work with integrity, be passionate, and walk humbly.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

I'm working on writing another short film. But I have a couple music videos coming up. My style of video are always heavy narrative, so I like to think of them and mini shorts.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Do work with integrity, be passionate, and walk humbly. Get money too.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

"in the book of life, the answers aren't in the back"

-Charlie Brown.
