Guyus Grey: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Family, Philosophy and Power.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I am Guyus Grey. The intergalactically, suited up, live techno performer. With a knack for combining science fiction literature to techno music through my performances, releases and overall brand I aim to engulf your senses into my sounds and stories. I am an artist

of many fashions, flavours and fascinations who believes in taking his tastes to the next level through binding each of my created arts into one specialized and packaged medium for the enjoyment of my fans and followers. I release all of the packaged work for myself and the other talented artists I know onto my label Downpour Recordings, which I run with my good friend Cosella.

Why do you do what you do?

I do what I do because it's what I've always done. I've been making, playing with and creating art for most of my life. I do it because it gives me reason and helps my portray how I see our culture, our society, our lives. Without art and the ability to create I think I'd get rather lost with myself

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

Honestly couldn't tell you. I got into DJing 4 years ago and turned to production and live performance about 2 years ago. I think I knew I wanted to pursue this full time when I saw how simplistic the essence of a rave or night club (techno playing night club of course) really is. To me it was peaceful and tribalistic in the way it functioned. Everyone being so fascinated and captivated by the music. So I said, "fuck it I want to make music that moves people in this way."

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

There's been a lot both career wise and personally I've had to over come. Too much to type in here. Family and close friends have always helped me through it. The will to continue creating has helped too. :)

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My family inspires me a lot. Along with past historical artistic

figures. Like those guys who really brought their crafts to life and more or less mastered the arts. Those guys inspire me too. I can't say if I've been an inspiration to anyone. If I have I've yet to find out lol.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Jumping the gun with certain projects and not finishing up the projects that really matter the most.. I've since learned to take my time with my work, take my time with launching my projects and perfect the craft before sharing the work. I've also learned the importance of stepping out of projects that will not give you long term personal or aesthetic value.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

This year I have several release lined up and on the way. I have two tracks coming out on the Spring Sampler for Downpour Recordings along with a four part EP series titled "The Grey Man", which is scheduled for release on Downpour too. Downpour also has several sci-fi ebooks lined up, which have been written by me, to match both my coming releases as well as the other artists on the label.

What advice would you give  to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Take your time with anything you do. Take in what you are doing and enjoy the very essence of doing it. Don't think about whatever it is you're doing just feel it out. The rest should fill itself in from there.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

Yeah for sure. Thanks for reading this. Give me a follow for updates on new music, stories and live techno shows. Also be sure to keep an eye out for my Grey Man EP series and the associated sci-fi Ebook package titled, "Stories From Space".
