Giulia Tripoli: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

My grandmother

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I am a dreamer who is constantly learning, growing, trying to better myself, trying to better the world

Why do you do what you do?

I love it and I can't go a day without it.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I think dance chose me. It was never in my original plan. I only started dancing when I was 18 and it just consumed me. Then I discovered teaching and choreography and travelling and it just became all I wanted to do. All my experiences led me to wanting to open my own studio which would allows me to pass knowledge on to the next generation.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

Dance is not an easy world. I've overcome hardships, injuries, defeat, rejection, loss- but so has everyone. We all have a story. It's how you react to what is thrown at you that makes you. Developing a thick skin, the support of loved ones and the sheer determination to succeed was what got me through.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My grandmother knew before I did that I was meant to dance. She was there for me since day one. She had brought me to see the Nutcracker Ballet when I was 3. I've been every year since. Somehow she knew by introducing me to this world I would do great things. When she passed away, it solidified in my mind that dance was what I was made for. I refuse to let her down. I refuse to let myself down.

I think so :) I hope so :)

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Not trusting myself sooner. I do believe though that everything happens for a reason. So whatever I misunderstood in the past, I have definitely grown from.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

So many!! Lots of workshops, travelling, performances (specifically one big show that I can't tell you about just yet) At Tripoli Studios we have an agency of professionals in training which has now grown to 50 dancers. So much in store for this next generation. Be on the lookout for them.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

The only thing fair about life is that it is unfair  to everyone. Do not pity yourself, complain too much, or doubt your capabilities. We will all be handed difficult tasks but remember you were given this life because you are strong enough to live it. With hard work any dream can become a reality. You are unique, you are beautiful and you are worth it.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

My favourite quote is : "Beyond talent lie all the usual words ; discipline, love, luck- but, most of all, endurance." - James Baldwin

My grandmother sent me this. A reminder to never ever ever give up.
