Christina Marchioni: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Friends & Musicians. I’m constantly surrounded by such amazingly talented and hardworking people. They’re my strength.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

“I am myself, strange and unusual”

Why do you do what you do?

Combining a love for music and a passion for photography. I do what makes me truly happy.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

It was about 3-4 years ago. I had this idea that I wanted to photograph musicians and tour across the world to places I had never been with them, documenting their lives and shows. This idea plagued my mind for some time but it wasn’t until a year or two ago I realized this is what I really want and I started working for it. I brought my camera to one of the local concerts and I loved it. From there I kept practicing, trying to improve in any way possible. I’ve gone to more concerts than I can keep up with and I’m constantly learning new things.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

Actually figuring out what I want to do with my life.

I did two years of photography in college and realized too late that I really didn’t have the motivation for it. I didn’t enjoy anything I was learning and felt like I was just wasting my time (and money). I did an apprenticeship with a wedding/conceptual photographer and learned more from her in less than a year than I did two years in school. I truly don’t believe you need to attend school to be a “photographer”. After that I tried a year of graphic design and decided it wasn’t for me.

The best thing that came out of that last year of school was realizing that despite not enjoying either program, I still wanted to be a photographer; I wanted to focus on photographing concerts and musicians. It was something I enjoyed it and made me happy.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

I’ve met so many incredible people over the past year and a bit. Most of my inspiration comes from them, my friends, music, musicians and other photographers.

I know there’s people that like my work, but I’d like to believe that something I’ve done would inspire someone in someway.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Mistakes are part of the journey. Always trying something new and improving in any way that I can.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

There are a couple of sweet concerts I’d like to be at before 2014 is up.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Don’t give up. It’s cliché, but it’s true. Do what you love, work hard, and live out your dreams.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

Thanks for reading! :)
