Chrissy: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

I think of love. People are inspired, passionate and strong because they LOVE what they do.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I am Chrissy. A shy quiet girl growing up. Never the loud one in the room. But I’m a go-getter, a dream-chaser, determined and focused on what I want to achieve in life. I love creating R&B/pop music. My favourite place to be is at the studio or performing live in front of my fans. My circle is small and I prefer it that way. The world is mine to see!!

Why do you do what you do?

For the love firstly. I think that’s why people do anything. At first it was for my own satisfaction; that I could do what these other artists on TV were doing. The deeper I got into it, my perception started to change. I’ve built a fan base over the years of people who connect with my music and the experiences I’m going through. I put their feelings into words. I read the messages and letters they send me and they make me realize more and more that a part of me now is doing it for them.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I’ve always loved to sing since I was a little girl but I was always shy. A few friends knew I could sing but that was it. One day at school, we were in the 7th grade, and our teacher told the class she was looking for someone to sing the lead role in Oh Happy Day at our school assembly. My friends voted on me, and next thing you know I was performing for the first time on a stage. I fell in freakin love!! Since then I attended every talent show, choir practice and coffeehouse I knew about. What really got me to pursue it on a professional level was after leaving high school. Seems like all my friends knew what they wanted to do except me. I mean, I knew what I wanted to do, I wanted to sing but that’s not exactly a box you tick off when you’re applying for university. So I dived head on into creating a music career for myself.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

There are a lot of obstacles in the way, and there still are. The toughest thing is being told no over and over again. I definitely had to learn how to have thicker skin. If you crawl into a ball every time someone tells you no you’ll never make it.  I also learned that you can’t do it alone and that it’s normal to need help! I’ve had an amazing team by my side for this entire journey. I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for their help.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

My mom is definitely number one on that list. I think as a parent, all you really want is to see your child happy. She supported me since I was young, driving me to every show, putting me in vocal lessons…. She made it easy for me to follow my dreams.

I have a few people I can truly say that I’ve inspired. I get their messages on Facebook or through my fan mail. I had one girl even make a YouTube video. She said she had always been scared to post videos of her singing to YouTube, but I inspired her to do it and she dedicated the song to me. I thought that was really sweet.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

Ohhhh I’ve made many mistakes. It’s all part of the journey. I’ve worked with people that I never should have, I’ve also turned down working with people that I should have! I’ve taken wrong advice from people with bad intentions… As I get older I’ve learned to listen to myself first.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

I have soooo many projects and ideas and plans for the future I don’t sleep! I have new songs, new people I’m working with, and so many places I plan to go! I’m blessed to have the opportunity to work with Snooki, I know she’s going to be a big help in achieving all of that!

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Whatever dream you wish to achieve in life, you have to be focused, determined and consistent!!! It’s so easy to fall off course and lose motivation. If I’ve learned anything these past 4 years, it’s that you can’t get time back. WORK HARD PEOPLE! IT WILL PAY OFF IN THE FUTURE!

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)
