Brink Macdonald: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Inspiration - find something that motivates

you

Passion- is never ending

Strength - to be strong takes a lot of will and

if you don’t have enough strength can be very

tiresome

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I’m Beyond the Brink.

Why do you do what you do?

Because it feels good when I’m on stage making people dance. Theres a certain high that comes from doing that, and I love it.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

NYE2010 at Circus AfterHours Gareth Emery was playing and while in the crowd I decided I wanted to the same. Then I started

going to more parties and getting more into the scene and eventually was given an opportunity to play Jan 6 2012 at a venue called Buddha Bar in Ottawa.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

Actually just getting up on stage for the first time was the toughest thing. I was nervous as fuck and I didn’t know how it would go. I’m a bit of a shy guy so it took a bit of getting used to. Right now my toughest challenge is production. I am working on some music and I wish I didn’t have to work another job so I had more time to work on just my music.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

Gareth Emery was the main inspiration in following this career path. Then more directly my Framework Music family. Rick Laplante

and Tone A (Anthony Jenkins) were huge in helping me learn the tricks of the trade. My friends have also been a big support. They

come to as many of my gigs as they can and even help me promote my events when they can. As for inspiring other people.. not to my

knowledge. I don’t think I’m at the level of saying that I inspire other people. I still have a lot of work to do.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

One thing for me is communication. There were times where I didn’t speak up when I should have in terms of gigs and opportunities. That affected me because I wasn’t taking the opportunities when they

were available to me.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

Work on my production mainly but I also want to expand my Beyond the Brink brand as well.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Don’t take shit too seriously. Stress can be cancerous.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

I’m in charge of giraffes and all things giraffe.
