The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

As an inspiration, I think of The Underdogs. Reason being, I want my music to sound as perfected and pristine as theirs. You will never hear a dull record coming from them and they have really captured that musical element and feel embedded in R&B music. When I hear the word passion, I think my brother Maurice. His passion for music surprises me at times and forces me to work harder when we work together. When I hear strength I honestly think of music and its influence on peoples' lives.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I am a young adult who loves to explore and create the art of music.

Why do you do what you do?

I do what I do because I admire my craft. I love music and I think it is amazing how music can influence a generation and make people experience feeling through sound. It’s also incredible how sounds can be put together and manipulated to create art.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

At first, making beats was just something I was always just interested in. I used to beat box a lot when I was a kid and I thought it would be cool to just try out Fruity Loops (A Beat making software). I started fooling around with it and then one day my brother Maurice actually sat down and taught me the basics about plugins, sequencing, and the general “ins and outs” of the program. After that, I made my first couple of beats which sounded pretty awful, but then there was one beat that stood out from the pack. This beat actually made it onto my brother and sister’s album The Takeoff. The song was titled “Waking Up (Interlude)” and to my surprise, people actually liked it. After that I started taking music a little more seriously and pretty much that event led to my current status now.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

The toughest thing I had to overcome was trying not to sound “cheap”. Cheap in the sense of learning how to polish my sounds to sound the way I want to and to sound professional. That is one of the biggest challenges associated with working in a home-studio. We didn’t have the luxury of having a thousand dollars worth of outboard gear to enhance the audio like professional studios. None the less, we created around our limitations and I’m satisfied with the product.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

I’ve said previously that The Underdogs inspire me, however, I must say that I have also been inspired by my brother; Maurice. If it wasn’t for his passion for music and his eagerness to excel, I don’t believe I would be creating music to this day. Yeah, it’s cheesy to say my brother inspires me, but I would be lying if I said otherwise. I’m just giving credit where it is due. I’m glad to say that I have inspired some local artists and I hope to inspire more.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

One mistake that I’m sure most musical creators have run into, is trying to sound like someone else. I would constantly try to make beats like Noah “40” Shebib or DJ Mustard because that’s what everyone liked and was listening to. I limited myself and trapped myself in an “anti-creative” box because none of my ideas were my own. I overcame that obstacle and have definitely learned from that mistake.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

I plan to always improve my craft because honestly, you're either getting better or worse. I want to learn more music and create more music. I’d rather not say anything about upcoming projects because I love surprises. Just know I’m also working with my team and creating music. Spring 2015 there’s more coming.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

My advice would to influence as many people around you to be great and always keep a positive mind. Also, educate yourself on everything. Be a well-rounded human.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

All love
