Alisa Zaytseva: Interview

The first words that comes to your mind when you hear Inspiration, Passion, and Strength

Challenge. Where there’s a problem there’s a solution. It’s all about what you do and how you do it. For whom and to whom – beauty is variable and the bigger the challenge the more inspired, stronger and passionate I get. Challenge myself and my team. Always.

Who are you? (Answer how you interpret this question)

I have no idea. I really don’t.

Constantly I change and adapt to various situations and people. I think it’s the question that I ask myself constantly and haven’t gotten an answer to. I am unique, that I know for sure and I love myself – my flaws and flawless. But I certainly can’t define who I am, especially at the age of 24. Ask me this in about 50 years’ time and I might come up with a decent answer. =)

Why do you do what you do?

Because I am incapable of doing anything else. Art is my only passion. I’ve tried adapting to another profession and being just  like everyone else and I failed.  Sometimes I wish my career would be more practical and less stressful…but at the same time I am gifted with a vision like no other. I am capable of creating beauty – for that I am grateful.

When did you know this is what you wanted to do, and what events led you to choose it?

I was very young, about 13 years old when I moved to Canada. Unfortunately I was forced to live in a small town in the middle of nowhere. I was completely isolated from the world – couldn’t speak the language, couldn’t get along with the small town folks, couldn’t leave the place for the next 4 years. In these prison-like circumstances I figured that I had to do something or else I’ll go absolutely crazy. And so I started drawing, then painting and by the time I could leave  this town I had an art portfolio which was my ticket to Toronto and OCAD University.  And so, at the age of 17 my life and art practice began. I’ve lived in Toronto up until this year and worked on various projects but it was time for me to come home and continue my art practice in Europe and so I did. I don’t look back very often, the tough luck and the good luck were necessary for my life to become what it is today. The past is just a story, it holds no power over me.

Toughest thing you had to overcome to do what you do? And what/who helped you?

The toughest thing I had to overcome was to give up the man I loved to keep going. No one helped me and no one could. But photography distracted me and allowed me to become independent again. Hearts mend, and once I realized that - I could live again, work again and dream again.

Has anyone/anything ever inspired you to become who you are (to follow your dreams)? Have you ever inspired anyone directly?

No, I don’t seek inspiration from other people. I don’t know if I directly inspired someone to become a photographer or an artist, but I definitely supported my gifted friends to continue their art practice when they were stagnant or needed some encouragement.

One mistake that you made in your journey? How have you learnt from them?

I spent a number of years blindly putting my life on hold while trying to save someone else’s. This is my biggest mistake and I will always regret the time wasted. To be free is to be self-sustainable. When I lost my freedom I focused on surviving and adapting to the life that wasn’t mine. And so I’ve learned my lesson and moved on.

Upcoming projects? Plans/goal? (about anything, if you have any)

I am planning on doing Art and Photography in Moscow and seeing where it takes me. In a few months from now I would like to take acting courses and/or get involved in short film production. I have an open schedule and am currently living freely. I don’t want to set huge goals and make incredible life plans for more than a year’s time. I like keeping things simple which gives me flexibility and allows me to choose my next direction.

What advice would you give to other people? (Just about life in general - It could be about anything)

Do you. Always.

Say anything you want, about anything (Last words)

Let’s have a party! =)
